Day One: The sun is shining brightly and the water below you is a beautiful shade of turquoise as you descend into Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport on this, your first trip to the Bahamas. A little while later, you’re on your way to Paradise Island and Atlantis – specifically The Cove Atlantis, where you step out onto your room’s balcony, take a deep breath and admire the view before heading down to the beach and that soft, white sand. You manage to locate a mask, snorkel and fins, and explore the waters off the tranquil Cove Beach for a little while before soaking up some afternoon sun and making plans for dinner at Casa D'Angelo. Following a panzanella with mixed greens and cherry tomatoes, you enjoy a fresh lobster tail with scallops and jumbo shrimp. The meal is delicious, and there’s still time for a moonlit beach stroll. The warm water laps at your feet and you find yourself giddy with anticipation of the fun days ahead.

Day Two: Aquaventure - Atlantis Paradise Island's water park - is a massive, one-of-a-kind “waterscape.” Featuring more than 20 million gallons of water, the park offers non-stop aquatic thrills for both the young and the young-at-heart. The Atlantean-themed towers are a sight to behold, and the high-speed water slides are absolutely thrilling. A favorite is the mile-long river ride, complete with rolling rapids and wave surges, and the pools are nice and relaxing. It’s safe to say you’ve never experienced anything on the size or scale of Aquaventure, and you’re glad you did. Once dried off, you take a walk through another of the resort’s unique attractions: its collection of marine exhibits. What you find is truly extraordinary - lagoons, caves, coral formations and underwater ruins are designed to showcase a variety of marine life, ranging from sharks to rays, barracuda, piranha, eels, colorful tropical fish and even endangered alligator gar. Incredible!

Day Three: This morning you’re up early and can barely contain your excitement, as you’ll experience what it’s like to come into direct contact with exotic marine animals as part of Atlantis’ Ultimate Trainer for a Day educational program for guests. The fun-filled agenda enables you to work alongside professional trainers and Aquarists as you interact with dolphins, rays and sharks. The customized program takes you “behind the scenes” to learn everything it takes to care for literally thousands of ocean inhabitants that call Atlantis home. You don a wetsuit and hand-feed the gentle rays, get up close and personal with predatory nurse sharks, and join in on a training session with some friendly and very exuberant dolphins. A photographer accompanies you to capture some great photos, and when your work with the team is complete, you wind down for a few minutes on Dolphin Cay’s private beach. You’ll never forget this amazing day.

Day Four: It’s your last full day in the Bahamas, and today you’re headed into downtown Nassau for a walking tour, complete with some rum tasting. Your guide takes you on a journey back to the pirate-plundering days of long ago, when rum and other spirits played a rich and colorful role in Bahamian life. You stop by Pirate’s Pub for a swig of its “demon water,” and hear of a time when drunken pirates roamed the streets. Next, you sample some Bahamian delicacies at Hillside House, and handcrafted chocolates at Graycliff Chocolatier, then wash them down with rum samples and sweet treats at John Watling’s Distillery. It’s all great fun, and upon your return to the resort you slow things way down at the Mandara Spa, which combines European therapies with Balinese touches and natural elements indigenous to The Bahamas. The deep tissue massage feels fantastic after several days of fun and activity, and caps off a blissful few days at Atlantis.
