This week we're bringing you an itinerary for four awesome days in the Valley of the Sun. Check out our great tips and vacation packages to the Southwest:
Day One: You fly into Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, pick up your luggage and head off to the spectacular JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa. Describing this resort as spacious is an understatement! It’s located on no less than 316 acres, and there’s a lot to explore here. But first, a completely different kind of flight is in order. Hot air ballooning is very popular in the Southwest, and a balloon ride at sunset is an unforgettable experience. Take a deep breath and enjoy the beauty, exhilaration and surprisingly gentle ride…sort of like riding on a cloud. You’ll sleep well tonight.
Day Two: There is no shortage of rugged terrain in Arizona, and one of the most fun ways to experience it is by ATV. Your ride begins in the lower desert near the Agua Fria River Valley, just below the Bradshaw Mountains. There are creek crossings and wash riding, and as you motor past ghost towns and abandoned gold mines, enjoy the gorgeous views of the Arizona desert sky as it explodes with color. Your guide also shares stories about the Native Americans who farmed, hunted, evolved and thrived for centuries in this unforgiving desert – pretty amazing.
Day Three: The “Valley of the Sun” is synonymous with golf, so perhaps the centerpiece of your visit to Phoenix will be a round at the Wildfire Golf Club. Wildfire’s Palmer Signature Course offers expansive fairways that generally allow the ball to remain in play, even on an errant shot! Surrounded by the majestic McDowell Mountains and timeless saguaro cacti, it’s a stunning setting for a memorable day on the tees, fairways and greens. And once 18 holes have been successfully carded, prime steaks and bold wines await at the club’s Meritage Steakhouse.
Day Four: It’s your final full day and time to get wet and go a little wild! 40 miles north of Phoenix, Lake Pleasant offers some of the most powerful rental jet skis found anywhere in the country. The Honda AquaTrax personal watercraft can blast through the water at speeds up to 70 mph – truly a thrill seeker’s dream vehicle. And with a surface area of more than 10,000 acres, the lake features plenty of fingers and coves with flat, glassy water. Hit the throttle and savor the rush of pure adrenaline.
