Summer may be over soon, but the sun never sets on the fun in South Florida. With school getting back in session, far fewer chairs are on the beaches and floats are in the pools. But, with the region’s average high and low temperatures at 86 degrees and 68 degrees Fahrenheit, respectively, during October and November, there’s never been a better time to catch some rays this coming season.

Whether you’re looking to make memories in Miami, Fort Lauderdale or Palm Beach - or experience the best of all three cities - you’ll find it easy to enjoy The Sunshine State this fall thanks to these 2018 festivities:

Food & Drink

One of the best parts about going on vacation is indulging in the destination’s unique delicacies. In South Florida, that means stuffing your face with seafood. Looking to eat your weight in salmon, fish tacos, stone crab and oysters? You’ll find it all in a fun setting during the annual South Beach Seafood Festival (Oct. 16-20) and South Florida Seafood Festival (Oct. 21-22). In addition to fresh fixings from the region’s most notable restaurants, both festivals will be offering live music, giveaways and games for all ages.

Dining and drinking go hand in hand, especially in South Florida. Head to Grovetoberfest (Oct. 13) for Miami’s annual beer festival featuring over 300 craft beers, or opt for a more traditional German celebration of beers and bratwursts during Palm Beach’s Oktoberfest (Oct. 12-21).

Art & Music

Take your souvenir game to the next level during the Festival of the Arts (Oct. 20-21), Miami’s longest running art fair featuring one-of-a-kind paintings, sculptures, jewelry and photography from over 150 local and nationally known artists. In November, make a trip to Miami’s historic Sunset Drive for the ChamberSOUTH South Miami Art Festival (Nov. 17-18) and stroll the booths of talented artists from around the world.

Music lovers making their way to Miami won’t want to miss out on the House of Creatives Music Festivals (Nov. 10-11). Sing along to your favorite artists - including headliners M.I.A. and Foster the People – while savoring stunning views of the surrounding Atlantic Ocean at Virginia Key Beach Park.

Sports

While boating, surfing and stand-up paddleboarding can still be enjoyed to the fullest in the fall, Florida’s sports aren’t limited to the water. Fuel up for fast-paced fun as you join the roaring crowds during the Ford Championship Weekend at Homestead Miami Speedway (Nov. 18).

Heading South this season doesn’t mean you have to miss out on your beloved football. With the Miami Dolphins scheduled to host some of your favorite teams including the Patriots, Jets, Titans and Bears, you’ll find plenty of reasons to make your way to Hard Rock Stadium this fall – even if it’s just to tailgate.

Autumn Activities

Don’t let the palm trees fool you. South Florida knows how to show off some autumn colors, too, and we’re not just talking about the postcard-like sunsets. Celebrate the season at one of the annual autumn festivities such as the Coconut Grove Pumpkin Patch Festival (Oct. 13-14), HalloWyn Block Party (Oct. 31) and Harvest Festival at Mimi Dade Fair Expo (Nov. 17-18).

Searching for some epic scares? Honor Halloween while testing your spook tolerance during Fright Nights at the South Florida Fairgrounds. This thrilling attraction will be open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday in October, inviting brave souls to explore four haunted houses full of scream-worthy surprises.

Did we mention savings?

There are plenty of perks when traveling to Florida outside of peak season, but savings may be the most significant. With the cost of airfare and accommodations far lower than during spring break and the summer rush, a family vacation to South Florida this fall is more attainable than you think. Don’t waste an entire weekend trying to do the research and travel arrangements yourself. With Vacations by Marriott’s exclusive deals to Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach, you can save up to 20 percent on flights, hotels and car rentals with a few simple clicks. So, what are you waiting for? The sun awaits!
