Four Memorable Days in the Nation's Capital

This week we're in our Nation's Capital for four memorable days on a Washington, DC Vacation!

Day 1: You touch down in the nation’s capital and head over to the centrally located JW Marriott Washington, DC, right down the street from the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue. You drop your bags, put on your best walking shoes, and immediately hit the town for a tour of the monuments, as many of the most popular ones are within walking distance of the hotel! You take in everything from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial to the Jefferson Memorial and many others in between, then finish off your day with a couple of hours exploring the Smithsonian, conveniently located right on the National Mall, near both the monuments and the JW Marriott.

Day 2: As a huge history buff, DC is the ideal place for you to be. Start off the day with a Lincoln Assassination Walking Tour. Once the tour is done, you realize how hungry you are and take a trip over to the Union Market for some exploration and delicious food. With everything from Korean tacos to fresh local oysters on the half-shell, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. In the afternoon, you decide to enjoy some spectacular works of art and spend some time at both the National Gallery of Art and the National Portrait Gallery.

Day 3: Today’s the day to get out of the city and do some exploration of the DC metro area and its surroundings. You decide to do a Mount Vernon and Arlington National Cemetery Tour. There is so much to do at Mount Vernon, you can’t decide which part was your favorite: the Mansion, George Washington’s Tomb, the Slave Memorial and Burial Ground, the museum, or the Wharf and Potomac Waterfront. Your afternoon at Arlington National Cemetery is a bit more subdued, but certainly a poignant experience. You get to see the Memorial Amphitheater, the JFK Gravesite, Tomb of the Unknown Solider, and the Changing of the Guard before heading back downtown for the evening.

Day 4: You start off your final full day in DC with a couple of memorable hours at one of DC’s favorite museums: the Newseum. Here, the exhibits include the 9/11 Gallery, the NBC News Interactive Newsroom, The Pulitzer Prize Photography Gallery, Time Warner News World, and the Berlin Wall Gallery. You continue your day with a walk around Capitol Hill and a tour of the Library of Congress, then finish things off with a great view of Pennsylvania Avenue back at the JW Marriott’s restaurant: Avenue Grill. Even though you head home tomorrow, there is so much still to do in the District of Columbia, and after a few incredible days of exploring you know you’ll be back soon for more adventures and exploration.
