If you like seafood, what better place to go than a restaurant called “The Fish Market?” The Fish Market is located right on the water and is a short 0.8 mile walk along the ocean from the Marquis (located right next to the famous USS Midway). The Fish Market is a small, local chain with locations in 5 other California cities including Palo Alto and Santa Clara. The menu is likely what you would expect with fish, shellfish, and even a raw oyster bar. Featured entrees include sautéed saffron mussels and chipotle rubbed Pacific swordfish. Other favorites include the clam chowder, crab and artichoke dip, and any fresh fish from the Mesquite barbeque. Locals and visitors alike love The Fish Market so make sure you arrive early to beat the crowds.


Buster’s Beach House and Longboard Bar
Cuisine: New American

San Diego is all about meals with great views, and Buster’s Beach House and Longboard Bar provides just that. Buster’s offers everything from sushi to pizza on its eclectic Hawaiian-influenced menu. After a walk around the marina park this is an ideal lunch choice, service at lunch is nice and quick, but around peak time during dinner, service can sometimes get a little bit slow – Buster’s is also open for breakfast. Breakfast favorites include the California eggs benedict with avocado and bacon, the French toast, and the omelets. When dining for lunch and dinner, regulars suggest a classic Hawaiian pizza, lettuce wraps, and the fish and chips! And be sure to grab a frozen cocktail as well, since you’ll only have to take a 0.3 mile walk back to the hotel.


Richard Walker’s Pancake House

Richard Walker’s Pancake House offers, exceptional pancakes and so much more, and is quickly becoming the ‘premier’ breakfast destination for both locals and tourists alike in San Diego. Expect the breakfast basics at Richard Walker’s from omelets, to Belgian waffles, and everything in between, including fantastic crepes. The specialty breakfast item here is the baked pancake specials, which have different flavors such as apple, pecan, and cinnamon. Come hungry, and be prepared to leave very, very satisfied at Richard Walker’s, located conveniently right across the street from the hotel. Insider scoop, make sure you show up early because you can expect a line, although know that it will move fast, and it will be worth the wait!


La Puerta
Cuisine: Mexican

When you’re in SoCal, you have to eat Mexican food, and La Puerta claims to be “the home of the best Mexican food in San Diego” so it’s probably a good place to start during a trip to San Diego, especially considering the restaurant’s 2,000+ reviews on Yelp. La Puerta has happy hour seven days a week from 3-7PM and serves a great Mexican-style brunch on the weekends. Happy hour is certainly the time to be at La Puerta, with daily specials ranging from $5 apps to half-price drinks. As far as food goes, it’s all the Mexican classics from quesadillas to street and gourmet tacos, and even one pound burritos. La Puerta will deliver an exceptional “Mexperience” and is only .4 miles from the hotel.


Marina Kitchen Restaurant and Bar

Hidden right in the Marriott Marquis, is the Marina Kitchen Restaurant and Bar, expect the high prices of a hotel restaurant, but also expect great food, and certainly convenience. Whether grabbing, breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a late night snack, the Marina Kitchen is a great choice. Keep your eyes open for not only the view, but also the wine cellar, which has a full glass wall opening out into the restaurant. With options from meat to seafood to some great salad options, you can’t go wrong at the Marina Kitchen – diners love the wide variety that the restaurant offers!
