Eat Like a Local: Chicago

The gem of the Midwest, Chicago host Millennium Park and "The Bean," Wrigley Stadium, the Willis Tower and a fantastic restaurant scene. So plan your Chicago vacation and try some of these incredible restaurants all within walking distance of the JW Marriott Chicago.

Cuisine: Pizza (deep-dish)  

Giordano’s is the place to go for Chicago’s world-famous deep-dish pizza. Expect a long wait, but it will be worth it! Everything is perfect at this place from the sauce to the toppings to the cheese to the proportions to the depth, many say that this could even be the best deep-dish in all of Chicago. Pick your favorite toppings, order up and expect a massive pizza pie to be delivered in return, even the small is huge! A short half-mile walk from the hotel, it is certainly worth walking over to grab a slice at Giordano’s.

Cuisine: Latin-American

Serving lunch, dinner and a fabulous Sunday brunch, Carnivale is the destination for those “who wish to enjoy global cuisine with Latin-American flair in an environment that reflects the passion of the chef!” This exotic, energetic and global restaurant offers the experience of Carnivale in a meal. All the food on the very large menu gets rave reviews so take your pick and enjoy! And of course, save room for dessert, offerings range from ice cream cake to cotton candy to lava mousse cake – as with everything else on the menu, you can’t possible make the wrong decision to complete your meal – all of the desserts are unique and delicious according to Carnivale fans. A one-mile walk from the hotel, this place is an experience not to be missed.

Roditys Restaurant
Cuisine: Greek  

Located in the heart of Greektown, Roditys has been a Greek staple in Chicago at the same location for the past 39 years. Coming here, feels like coming home to a big old Greek family. Try the combo platter with tzatziki, taramosalta, eggplant salad and spanakopita as an appetizer to get a great introduction to all the Greek flavors; and then move on to the roast sirloin lamb and let the meat melt in your mouth, or even stick with a classic gyro, you can’t go wrong at Roditys. The restaurant is an easy .3 mile walk from the hotel.

Ruth’s Chris Steak House
Cuisine: Steakhouse

Ruth’s Chris does steak right, and if you’ve never consumed a meal here, now is your opportunity, as the Chicago restaurant is only a mile walk from the hotel. With dozens of locations around the world, Ruth’s Chris is famous for its unforgettable steaks seared to perfection at 1800 degrees and perfectly topped off with fresh butter. To complement the delicious steak, consider trying the lobster mac and cheese, garlic mashed potatoes, or spinach au gratin as sides. They also offer a great cocktail list. Do note that attire is on the fancier side for this restaurant.

The Florentine
Cuisine: Italian

The JW’s very own The Florentine restaurant offers an “elegant yet accessible interpretation of seasonal Italian cuisine.” The menu showcases imported Italian favorites such as pastas, cheeses and meats as well as using fresh local ingredients combined in an exciting modern way. Favorite dishes include the homemade gnocchi with duck ragu, all the pizzas, the BLT burger, and of course, save room for dessert! A fun perk of the restaurant is a free pizza with a drink ordered during happy hour. Find this Italian gem on the 2nd floor of the hotel.
